Water Bottle Cozy Pattern

Hey all, here is the pattern for this adorable cabley-y water bottle cozy I showed you yesterday. It can easily be suited to any size water bottle, just alter the number of rounds of half double crochets you use. Enjoy 🙂

Water Bottle Cable Cozy

*note this pattern is slightly reworked from the “Cabled Mitts” pattern in the Nov/Dec 2010 Crochet Today magazine

Materials: G Hook, ~3 oz (depending on the size of cozy you want) of yarn (I used pink Caron), water bottle for size

Stitches: sl st, sc, hdc, tr, dtr (*double treble crochet: yo 3 times, insert hook into stitch, yo and draw up a loop, [yarn over and draw through 2 loops] 4 times)

Here we go: Ch 36

Round 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and sc in each st across (35 sc)

Round 2: (RS) Ch 2, turn. Working in back loops only, hdc in each st across.

Round 3-10: Repeat round 2 (this should wrap almost halfway around the bottle, adjust your rounds to the appropriate size. You should end up so your next round is on the right side.

Round 12-13: Ch 1, turn. Working in both loops, sc in each st across.

Round 14: (RS) Ch 4, turn (Counts as a tr here only). Working in both loops, sk first st, tr in next st (sk next 3, dtr in next st, working behind dtr, tr in last 3 skipped sts) 8 times, tr in last. (DTR should diagonally cross in front of the TRs on the right side, see picture).

Round 15: Ch 4, turn. Working in both loops, sk first 2 sts, dtr in next st, working in front of dtr, tr in last 2 skipped sts. (Skip next 3, dtr in next st, working in front of dtr, tr in last 3 skipped sts) 7 times, tr in last 2 sts. (DTR should diagonally cross behind the trs since this round is the wrong side of the work).

Round 16-17: Repeats rounds 12-13.

Round 18-end: Repeat round 2 until work wraps snuggly around bottle.

Seaming: turn work so right side is facing together, line up edges and slip stitch down to fasten together. Sew in ends and block lightly if desired.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

So my parents are big wine-ohs, and I thought that instead of buying gift bags for all the wine they give that I would try making some reusable bags. I think they turned out pretty well, don’t you?

They are all different sizes because I can’t seem to follow directions, but I am working on it. I got all 3 from 1 ball of RedHeart SuperSaver Medium Worsted yarn, and I could have probably gotten 4 if I had made the smallest size consistently.

I CASE’d the pattern from www.bernat.com, called “Reusable Gift Bag” I altered it slightly because the pattern is really too big for a single bottle of wine. Here are the altered directions:

Use a 5mm or US H hook

1)      Chain 17

2)      1 dc in 4th ch from hook (counts as 2 dc). 1 dc in each of the next 14. 3 dc in last ch. Working in the remaining loops of foundation ch work 1 dc in each to the end. 2 dc in last ch. Join with sl st to top of ch 3.

3)      Ch 3, dc all the way around, sl st to top of ch 3.

4)      Repeat step 3 21 more times or until the top of a wine bottle just peaks out the top.

5)      Handles: ch 3, 4 dc, ch 17 and skip 10 dc, dc 13, ch 17 and skip 10 dc, dc back to ch 3, join with sl st. Ch 3 dc all the way around, join with sl st. Repeat 3 times and fasten off.

6)      In second row down from handles, weave in a ribbon to cinch the bag around the wine.
